

The Social and Recreational Program at
Ukrainian Canadian Social Services
(Toronto) aims to promote physical and
emotional well-being, prevent
isolation
and enhance the quality of life by providing
a range of group
activities for members of
the Ukrainian ethno-cultural community.
Program activities give participants, who
are mainly seniors, the opportunity
to
socialize, learn new skills, get information,
and enjoy the social and
emotional
support of their peers. The Ukrainian
language is used in all
program activities
and all activities are culturally based.
Program activities include:
A Drop–In Centre Monday to Friday 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM
Includes access to a small library, and a computer and the Internet.
Arts and Crafts Groups Monday 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM
Activities include embroidery, weaving, ceramic painting, and Easter egg
writing. Lunch is provided to participants.
Bingo Tuesday 1:00 PM
Coffee, tea and snacks are served.
Svitlycia Seniors Club Wednesday 2:00 PM
Meetings include speakers on various Ukrainian and Ukrainian-Canadian
issues, health and wellness topics, and seniors' issues; videos; musical
entertainment; celebration of important events and personalities in Ukrainian
history and literature; and special Ukrainian Christmas and Easter programs.
Light refreshments are provided.
Recreation and Games Day Thursday 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM
An opportunity to play chess, cards and read a variety of Ukrainian and local press. Refreshments will be available. All those interested are cordially invited.
Program activities take place from September to June, with the exception of
the Drop-In Centre, which is offered year-round.
A traditional Ukrainian New Year's Eve Malanka takes place in January.
In the summer, Day Trips are offered to various tourist attractions in Ontario.
